We have compiled a separate list of psychotherapists in training.
What does "in training" mean and what is important to know?
1. Therapists have a specialised higher education and are studying a specific therapy approach.
Therapists on our list have already obtained a degree in the relevant profession (psychology, social work) or have relevant medical education (clinical psychology or psychiatry).
Currently, these therapists are completing training in their chosen psychotherapy approach (gestalt therapy, CBT, psychoanalytic approaches, etc.), but have not yet been certified.
In other words, these are people who have sufficient theoretical knowledge of psychodiagnostics, understand the processes that occur in the psyche, and are familiar with the basic approaches of a psychologist's work. During training in a specific psychotherapy approach, therapists acquire practical therapy skills from the very beginning of the program.
2. We conduct interviews with all new therapists on the platform.
Before adding a new expert to Treatfield, we personally talk to them, verify the authenticity of their diploma, and ask them to sign an ethical code.
3. Therapists in training work under supervision.
This is a mandatory condition. Supervision is regular meetings with a more experienced counselling professional, mentor, or program coach, during which the therapist in training discusses their cases (always maintaining confidentiality, i.e., omitting or changing biographical details that could identify the client). The supervisor helps adjust the course of therapy if necessary and indirectly creates additional security for the client.
4. Working with a therapist in training can have its advantages.
It's not just about lower prices and no waiting lists. Therapists who are being certified and starting their practice can be just as beneficial for the client as more experienced therapists – primarily due to their sincere interest in their profession, fresh and open-minded approach to each case, as well as careful work and understanding of their limitations.
