FAQ

How to choose the right therapist?

Focus on your emotions and intuition a little more than on rational criteria. Does the therapist inspire trust and a sense of security? Make sure that the therapist you choose works with your request if the topic requires specific knowledge. For example, almost all specialists work with relationship issues, crises, or anxiety. The topics of eating disorders, addictions, or postpartum depression are more narrow and require specific knowledge.

What is the format of the consultations?

The consultation takes place via video communication, and the video communication service and payment are built into the site. Some Treatfield specialists provide face-to-face counselling in Ukrainian cities: if there are such specialists in your city, you will see a separate list on the Therapists page. Usually, a session lasts an hour, but some therapists can set it to 50 or 55 minutes. The content of the consultation depends on the area in which the therapist works and on your request. That is it, there is no rigid structure.

Can I be sure of data confidentiality and security?

Payments are processed by a specialised payment processor: Treatfield does not have access to your credit card information. Video communication is arranged in such a way that the video stream is not stored on third-party servers and is transmitted in encrypted form. It means that only the therapist and the client (or clients, in the case of family therapy) can connect to the session. If you'd prefer to remain anonymous, you can use a made-up name when signing up.

How do I choose a therapist if I'm not sure about the problem?

Most clients come to psychotherapy without a clear request, and this is completely normal. Therefore, choose a therapist who intuitively gives you a feeling of security and trust. If it is too difficult to choose, feel free to contact us, we will answer questions about the platform and help you choose a therapist.

What should I say at the first session if I don't know what my problem is?

You don't need to have any terminology or knowledge: talk about your feelings. At the first session, it makes sense to get to know the therapist, ask questions, and discuss the proccess (for example, the rules for rescheduling sessions). Tell your therapist what brought you to therapy and why now: what feelings or events are bothering you, what has changed, what you'd like to achieve. Together you will gradually define your plan and goals.

Do I need to prepare for the first consultation?

Make sure you have a stable internet connection and your microphone and webcam are working. Make sure no one comes in during the consultation and the conversation cannot be heard from the next room. If you have pop-up notifications enabled, it's best to turn them off temporarily. Allow yourself 15 minutes before the session to collect your thoughts and disconnect from work and other activities. Try to plan your day so that after the session you have 20-30 minutes without meetings and plans.

May I contact a psychotherapist anonymously?

Yes, it is possible. You do not have to provide your last name when registering. Your first name, a shortened form of your name, or even a "nickname" will be enough. Please note that when signing up via social media, your full name may be automatically uploaded. So for anonymous therapy, it is better to create a separate email and sign up with it. In any case, the psychotherapist will keep your information confidential and will not disclose the content of the sessions to anyone.

Which psychotherapy method do I choose?

For most requests (burnout, anxiety, relationships with children, partners or parents, crises), your emotional connection with a psychotherapist is more important than specific techniques and approaches. In general, the Gestalt approach works well with relationship problems, loneliness, and loss. CBT therapy is effective for anxiety, phobias, procrastination, and obsessive thoughts. Psychoanalysis allows you to dive deeper into the causes of difficulties and hear the suppressed impulses of the psyche.

How do I know if therapy is effective?

The first feeling of relief usually arises from the opportunity to speak out and the fact that someone understands me and does not judge me. The more profound change will come gradually, and some goals will be abandoned as unrealistic (for example, the desire to turn off unpleasant feelings). Whatever our expectations of the therapy are, it is best to discuss them with a therapist. It will help to outline the future path.
